Dead Obies' Gesamtkunstwerk is out now

Gesamtkunstwerk, Dead Obies' sophomore album, is available now online (Bandcamp / iTunes) and in stores! And make sure to get your tickets for the band’s upcoming tour!

The band's new album was recorded in part in studio and in part in front of a live audience during a series of three sold-out concerts at Phi Centre. It’s their follow-up to Montréal $ud (November 2013), whose critical success and popularity helped propel the band to the forefront of Quebec’s rap scene, as well as earn them a tour in France.

With Gesamtkunstwerk, Dead Obies explores new avenues of powerful, melodic choruses and concise raps, juxtaposed with laid-back rhythms, ethereal synths and organic, groovy bass.

Champion unveils Life is Good from his upcoming album

Almost three years after the release of his third album °1, Champion returns in full force with Life is Good, the first single off his new album Best Seller to be released this spring via Bonsound. The song is available via Bandcamp, iTunes and all the other digital platforms.

The song, a hymn to life and love, reminds us of Champion during his early years. The upbeat music is textured and catchy, and is elevated by the sultry blues voice of singer Lou Laurence, who also co-wrote the lyrics.

This first single is one of three other songs initially composed for his second album Resistance, released in 2009. With this new album, Champion will reconnect with his early musical tastes. Listen and share Life is Good via YouTube.

Dead Obies: the Making of Gesamtkunstwerk

During the production of their three sold-out shows at Phi Centre in October, Dead Obies shot a 21-minute documentary about the creation of Gesamtkunstwerk. This second album was recorded in part in studio and in part in front of a live audience at Phi Centre. The documentary Dead Obies in Gesamtkunstwerk: ein dokumentarfilm is streaming now on YouTube.

The album Gesamtkunstwerk will be released on March 4th via Bonsound. It’s available now for pre-order on Bandcamp and iTunes.

Milk & Bone releases new single Poison

Nominated at this year’s JUNO Awards for Breakthrough Group of the Year, Milk & Bone now unveils Poison via Noisey, a song they’ve been performing live during recent shows.

Produced by Deebs (Toronto) and mixed by Gabriel Gagnon (Montreal), Poison explores a lethal love story. The lyrics describe the inability to shut out thoughts of someone, and loving every second of it despite being in excruciating pain. The song is about knowing you’ve been abandoned and not being ready to let go.

After their show in Toronto on March 5th at Lee’s Palace, Milk & Bone will hit the road for their first ever US tour, which kicks off at SXSW on March 15th. In May, they’ll head on their first European tour.

Jazz band Misc announces the release of their self-titled album

This spring, jazz band Misc (formerly known as Trio Jérôme Beaulieu, and named Radio-Canada’s Breakthrough Jazz artist for 2013-2014) will release their self-titled album on March 18th, 2016 via Bonsound. Don’t miss their launch show at the Sala Rossa on March 22nd, 2016. Misc is available for pre-order via Bandcamp and iTunes. Listen and share the album sampler.

Misc holds a place in the Jazz scene because of the vital role that improvisation occupies in their music. However, this does not stop them from drawing on influences from pop and rock genres. This clearly mark a step towards a new generation of jazz musicians for whom catchy, strong melodies and rhythms expand musical boundaries while rooting the music in the present. Therefore this album, much like the live performances of Misc, strives to create an energetic and active dialogue between the listener and the music.
