Biography

Philémon Cimon is a sensitive artist; urgency, vulnerability and generosity are felt throughout his lyrics and his creative process. His relationship with words and music was revealed during an introspective trip to India at 17 years old. Back then, he had nothing left but his voice and his guitar. He assumed that music would be his living.

In 2009, Philémon Cimon travelled to Cuba and randomly met two local musicians. He rented a two-day session in a recording studio called Egrem de Centro Habana. Eleven songs and four tapes later, his first album was born: Les sessions cubaines.

He toured the province before recording his sophomore album, 2014's L’été, at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango studio. The record was critically acclaimed at home and in Europe. He won the Prix Félix-Leclerc de la chanson, which brings him to play the FrancoFolies de la Rochelle, in France.

In 2015, Philémon Cimon went back to Havana with a bunch of prodigious musicians from Montreal and recorded a third album, Les femmes comme des montagnes. He released the record in Canada in September 2015 and in France in February 2016, as a deluxe version featuring four previously unreleased songs. These form a digital EP titled Psychanalysez-vous avec Philémon Cimon, recorded in Cuba at the same time as Les femmes comme des montagnes.
