Pierre Lapointe presents a music video shot at the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; a remarkable event in the history of the Museum.

Today singer-songwriter Pierre Lapointe releases a music video for Les fleurs d'une autre dimension. The song is from L'heure mauve, the album he created to complement the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts (MMFA) exhibition Nicolas Party: L'heure mauve.

Co-directed by Pierre Lapointe and Simran Dewan, the video was shot into the halls of the MMFA to forever link the fate of the album L'heure mauve to the exhibition. Simran and I decided to integrate myself into the works of art, as if I were part of the installation, explains Pierre Lapointe. The result is a series of paintings, colours and emotions that reflect Party's work.

Among the many collaborators behind the video’s production is the renowned Montreal florist Nadine Jazouli (creator of PRUNE LES FLEURS) whose floral arrangements intensify several scenes, as well as the writer Katia Grubisic, who translated the song’s lyrics. I would also like to acknowledge the outstanding commitment of the team at the MMFA, without whom this project would have never seen the light of day, says Pierre Lapointe.

Les fleurs d’une autre dimension is composed by Pierre Lapointe and highlighted by a string ensemble that guides the listener through a floating atmosphere, while recalling the 1960s songs of Françoise Hardy. By questioning our relationship with time, Les fleurs d'une autre dimension evokes the idea that humans are, in the end, only grains of sand in the universe.

Released via Bonsound, L'heure mauve is available exclusively through our online store and at the MMFA Boutique and Bookstore. The limited edition double album is pressed on deep red vinyl. The record is also available in a luxurious box set that includes a numbered silkscreen print by Swiss artist Nicolas Party.

At the MMFA’s invitation, Pierre Lapointe composed a soundtrack for the exhibition Nicolas Party : L’heure mauve, on display until October 16, 2022. Reflecting the themes and structure of the exhibition, the album (produced by Philippe Brault) is made of seven tableaux, each of which combines an original composition with a new rendition of a classic song. The revisited songs include those of Charles Aznavour, Félix Leclerc and Kurt Weill, to name a few.
