Man Machine

Mmband

The Man Machine project started in 2008 when the members of former Disco Punk SEXYBOY recruted guitarist Olivier Pépin (Concorde Crash, Pédo Pédro, Le Hot Club de Ma Rue). The new formation concentrated on developing a new system that would enable them to produce a solid and mechanical rock. Their goal is more than ambitious: to invent a new sound. The four musicians, Christophe Lamarche-Ledoux (vocals and keyboard), Renaud Payant-Hébert (bass and synthesizer), Philippe Bilodeau (drums) and Olivier Pépin (guitar) spent nearly two years improving their engines before creating their first compositions. The result is sharp and intense.

In the summer of 2010, the band successfully recorded their first solid EP that was launched at the MEG in Montreal. The album is available online for your voluntary contribution.

The next fall, the band got tighter as the number of shows increased and became more and more explosive. The addition of an analog synthesizer by bassist Renaud Payant Hébert adds to the sonic mass and guitarist Olivier Pépin took on the role of second vocalist. Man Machine reached #1 on Bande à part's chart with Peu de gestes which is also their first video.

What is the machine, exactly? The system enables the drummer to control all of the band's instruments all while dictating the riffs and rhythm of each of the musicians. This gives an unreal tightness and the impression that a computer program is controlling it all. Hard to imagine?!
