Philippe B presents a video for his song Ornithologie I

Recently awarded the Félix for Songwriter of the Year at the 2014 ADISQ Gala, Philippe B now shares a video for a re-orchestrated version of his song Ornithologie I. Shot in three single-sequence shots and directed by GPG, the video gradually unveils images of Philippe at the piano, a 15-piece marching band and a choir made up of seven female singers gathered together for the occasion.

The year 2014 finishes on a high note for Philippe B, who will act as Pierre Lapointe’s advisor on the next season of La Voix (Quebec’s own The Voice). Nominated for Folk Album of the Year at ADISQ and GAMIQ, Ornithologie, la nuit, Philippe’s Polaris long-listed fourth solo album, has also already made its way on many best-of-2014 lists (La Presse, VOIR, L’Actualité, Ici ARTV).

Milk & Bone signs with Bonsound and unveils a video for New York

Bonsound is very happy to announce Milk & Bone’s signing to its label and booking rosters. Formed by Camille Poliquin and Laurence Lafond-Beaulne, the band is set to release their debut album in early spring 2015. At the forefront of the duo’s sonic universe, made of electronic textures and layers of synths, are their vocal harmonies, which form the spellbinding heart of the partnership.

Today, the electro-pop band shares their first video for New York. Director Mégane Voghell brilliantly translates the song’s melancholy and minimalism into intense and emotive black and white images.

In addition to New York, you can also check out Coconut Water, which has garnered over 43,000 plays on Soundcloud since its premiere via NYLON in August. Milk & Bone will be performing during an M for Montreal showcase this Friday, November 21st at 4pm at Café Campus. Don’t miss it!

To mark Montréal $ud’s first anniversary, Dead Obies is releasing a book of the same title, designed to be a companion to the album. In addition to a glossary of terms used by the band, the book talks about the Dead Obies’ journey and the production of Montréal $ud, while dissecting the lyrics of the album’s 17 songs over more than 130 pages. You can order the book on bandcamp, or buy it in stores in a few weeks.

Nominated for Album of the Year - Hip-hop and Album of the Year - Critics’ Choice at this year’s L’Autre Gala de L’ADISQ, Montréal $ud is now available on CD in stores and on their bandcamp. First released on vinyl and in digital format in November of 2013, the post-rap band’s debut album also made it onto the 2014 Polaris Music Prize Long List.

Rich Aucoin presents his new video for Want To Believe

Rich Aucoin is very excited to present his new video for Want To Believe, from his album Ephemeral, available in stores, on bandcamp and iTunes via Bonsound. Rich and director Jason Eisener both grew up with movies like The Monster Squad, The Goonies, The Sandlot and The Explorers, and they wanted to create their own kids adventure. Starring the Halifax-born artist as Detective Wolfe, the video packs an epic storyline into three short minutes of reckless imagination.

It was incredibly fun to make, says Rich Aucoin. Shooting all night till dawn with a youthful excitement of creating something in the vein of so many of our favourite films. I hope people enjoy the hard work of so many people who put this labour of love together. Oh, I also hope that putting my real phone number in the video turns out to be a good idea!

In times like this/I wanna be a believer!, Aucoin shouts on the exuberant anthem mixed by Grammy Award winner Mick Guzauski (Daft Punk). It’s not surprising that he means all times. I want to believe, he says, and am on a quest to try to have as many experiences as I can to elicit belief.

Pierre Kwenders shares a new video for Mardi Gras

Pierre Kwenders is very excited to share is new music video for Mardi Gras, off his debut album Le Dernier Empereur Bantou that was recently released on October 14th. Directed by Epher Heilland and produce by Roméo et Fils, the video was filmed in Montreal. In the video, Pierre Kwenders and Jacobus (Radio Radio) find themselves in the spotlight amongst a joyous procession as they dance down an electro cajun Main street.

**** Alain Brunet, La Presse

Kwenders’ music has the melodic, rhythmic and sonic appeal that could easily fly beyond several linguistic, cultural and musical barriers […] Lorraine Carpenter, CultMTL

I was most impressed by intimidatingly stylish opener Pierre Kwenders […] Julia LeConte, NOW Magazine

Overall, Kwenders' debut full-length is ambitious in scope and hits most of, if not all the right notes. Ryan B. Patrick, Exclaim
