Listening to Kaya Hoax, you'll find yourself nodding your head with a high energy blend of mischief and passive indignation. Both urgent and celebratory, her music lives somewhere between hip hop and experimental pop, drawing inspiration from UK grime, dancehall and punk.
Listening to Kaya Hoax, you’ll find yourself nodding along with a mix of mischief and quiet indignation. The Montreal artist first made waves in 2020 with her debut single, Kicker—a track drawing from the fearless eclecticism of M.I.A., Santigold’s sharp songwriting sensibilities, and Charli XCX’s futuristic pop. A self-taught artist with a magnetic stage presence, Kaya Hoax quickly established herself as one of Montreal’s most exciting emerging voices.
In May 2024, she released her debut EP, Baby Gear, to widespread acclaim. Produced alongside Funkywhat and INFOPOLICE, the record stands out for its hard-hitting beats, razor-sharp digital production, and irresistibly catchy melodies. Blending influences from UK grime, alternative pop, and hip-hop, the EP quickly propelled Kaya Hoax onto the stages of Quebec’s leading music festivals, including Osheaga, POP Montréal, M for Montréal, FME, Le Festif!, and Tavern Tour.
Winner of the 2025 Lucien d'Espoir Award at the GAMIQ Awards, Kaya Hoax is now at work on her debut full-length album—her boldest artistic statement to date.
