On August 24th, Le Kraken will release their album De paille et d'or, via Blow the Fuse Records. Le Kraken is a francophone post-metal band from Montreal formed in 2006. On their new record De paille et d’or, they deliver a collection of sludgy, relentless, apocalyptic & melodic tracks that are as loud as anything coming out of Canada at the moment. Influenced by the likes Tragedy, His Heros is Gone & Neurosis, Le Kraken holds no punches on their third LP, proving once again that Quebec nurtures some of the heaviest acts around.

Le Kraken’s members are Guillaume Chamberland (voice, base), Louis Guillemette (voice, guitar), Jean-Philippe Marcil (guitar) and Marc Tremblay (drum). Their self-produced album, recorded over a few years, is full of music that falls between post-metal and crust-punk. The tracks were mastered by Brad Boatright, and Florian Pétigny designed the album artwork.

The nine songs are the fruit of many improvisation sessions. The sombre atmosphere incorporates dark, muffled vocals, epic riffs and theatrical guitars. There are also sincere pieces that revolve around themes like balance, the environment and freedom of choice. Storyteller, singer, Québécois ethnographer and long-time fan Michel Faubert (Les Charbonniers de l'enfer, La Bottine souriante) even lends his voice on the track Synergie.

Le Kraken has never stopped working to create the best songs possible despite the marginalization of their particular musical genre, especially while Louis also worked on his well-respected duo project Solids. The band has performed around Europe, including France, Germany, Slovenia and Slovakia. Throughout their career they’ve released an EP (2007), two albums (Exalt in 2009 and Exil in 2012) and played the 2013 Francos de Montréal.
