Philippe B takes an empathetic and experienced look back on his past on Cigale, his most autobiographical album to date. Named after one of French poet Jean de La Fontaine's most well-known fables, this seventh record portrays a man who has chosen to make a living from his passion despite the precariousness and insecurities that come with that choice. Philippe B draws on his own experiences to illustrate the trials and tribulations of an aspiring artist, touching on universal themes such as the passage of time, the development of identity and our perception of age.

Past, present and future alternate from one song to another; tracks such as Ulysse, 1999, and La Cadbury take us back to Philippe’s early years as a struggling singer-songwriter, while others, such as La jeunesse est un autre pays and Avant/Après, depict his current reflections on this significant period of his life. Philippe B once again proves his mastery of the art of songwriting by relying on simple, minimalist arrangements, allowing listeners to fully appreciate his gorgeous melodies and powerful lyrics.
