Loïc April details self-titled debut album and unveils Fleur de violence

Following Mes ruines sur tes décombres, a first single that found its place on both commercial and college radio, Loïc April returns with a second song, Fleur de violence, off his self-titled debut album due out March 30th via Bonsound. The Montreal launch show will take place on the same day at Casa del Popolo.

The album is available to pre-order now.

Without betraying his allegiance to inventive guitar riffs and surprising rhythms, Loïc describes Fleur de violence about being unable to communicate at the right time, and imagining what could have been. The track’s accompanying video, directed by Philippe Beauséjour (Duchess Says, Solids, IDALG), was shot in a room lined with amps. We see the musicians who actually play on the album; Olivier Van Tassel on bass, Jonathan Charette on drums, Denis-Paul Mazerolle on guitar and finally Loïc on vocals and guitar.

Produced by Jonathan Charette (Groenland, Simon Kingsbury), the album came to fruition over many morning rehearsals in an dusty east-Montreal space. Indie rock soundscapes blend with shoegaze, post-punk and powerpop influences. The lyrics evoke solitude, social anxiety and disillusionment, and borrow from both ecclesiastical and mythological vocabulary. The critically-acclaimed songwriter Philippe B acted as a mentor during the writing process. Déroger au décorum / Mutiner mon mutisme / Épaulé par Perséphone / Je suis parachutiste / J’ai osé espérer des points pour la démarche, sings Loïc on Des points pour la démarche. The recording was entrusted to Reelroad Studio’s Samuel Gemme (Uubbuurruu, Anemone, Jésuslesfilles) and the mixing to Adrian Popovich (We Are Wolves, Solids, Heat).
