Magi Merlin and Fernie team up to unveil the entrancing R&B single DOLLA BILL

Magi Merlin (pronounced Madge-EYE) and Fernie release DOLLA BILL, the first ever collaboration between these two friends and flourishing solo artists. The song is available now via Bonsound in Canada and LHL worldwide. DOLLA BILL showcases their distinctive, complementary voices, and is a feel-good R&B earworm. The dreamy vibe transports us to a world where we can rest our heads on pillows of cash, and forget about bills and other hazards of adult life.

Lately, Magi & Fernie have played the same festival line-ups and attended the same shows and parties. They’ve often talked about collaborating on a song, so when producer & beatsmith Funkywhat (a close collaborator of Magi Merlin) sent her the unfinished version of DOLLA BILL he had recorded with Fernie, she was on board. The result is a catchy, laid-back collaboration between two up-and-coming artists.

Back in May, Magi Merlin unveiled Gone Girl, a striking EP that draws on influences from 90’s house, drum-and-bass, Motown and acid-flecked hip-hop. Gone Girl was widely celebrated upon its release and attracted the attention of Complex, Bandcamp Daily, CBC Music and Nylon, to name a few. In the past few months, Magi performed at several festivals (Montreal Jazz Fest, FEQ, FME, etc.), supported Noga Erez on her European tour, and played a captivating show at the Fairmount Theatre as part of POP Montreal.

In the fall of 2021, queer artist Fernie released their debut album Aurora, a blend of emancipatory soul, melodic R&B and vulnerable words that is filled with the subtle nuances of 90’s melancholia. Over three years, the Montreal-based artist with Brazilian roots worked on Aurora while seeking to be perceived as a whole person, and the music created a safe space for them to reveal, share and affirm themselves. The album is led by an agile voice that connects the past, present and future. Fernie has been featured in Rolling Stone France, Cult MTL, Indie88 and CBC.
