Milk & Bone denounces the male gaze on their catchy new single Object of Fun

Montreal-based electro-pop duo Milk & Bone presents Object of Fun, an unapologetic single on which the pair denounces the way the male gaze ignores the uniqueness and multitudes of womanhood. Coming just a few days before the release of their third album, Chrysalism, this powerful song follows the release of previous singles A Little Better Every Time, Movies, Borders and Bigger Love. Available now for pre-order (vinyl, CD and digital), Chrysalism will be out on October 28th via Bonsound.

Carried by anthemic synths and dense drum machine rhythms, Object of Fun explores the weaponization of femininity by the male gaze, and the pressure to fit within this idealized version of womanhood; one that isn’t outspoken, doesn’t age, always fits the sample size. Object of Fun is about the anger we feel when we’re being gaslit into thinking those things are actually encouraged, and are then used against us explains the pair.

On Friday, Milk & Bone will unveil Chrysalism, a new album built on vocal harmonies, synth-led melodies and catchy guitar riffs. On their third effort, the duo explores topics such as love, longing and heartbreak from a more mature perspective, no longer choosing to see themselves as victims of circumstances, but rather as actors in the storyline of their lives. Composed and recorded with the help of Los Angeles-based producer Micah Jasper (ELIO, Rebecca Black, Slayyyter), who shares the duo’s pop sensibilities and references, Chrysalism is a poignant reflection of what it feels like to grow older and come into your own.

Multiple shows are planned in the coming months for Milk & Bone, including dates in Toronto and Ottawa. The duo will also perform an intimate, sold out concert at the PHI Center in Montreal on February 16th, 2023. More dates will be announced soon.
