Population II tones down just a bit on Magouilleux, the first single off Gimmicks, a new EP due out April 3rd via Bonsound. The track unfolds with dreamlike synths and keyboards, gradually blending with Pierre-Luc Gratton's husky voice, pulsating drums, and the rumble of a bass synthesizer. Drifting at times into a darker, somewhat unsettling soundscape, the three-piece band never loses control and delivers a powerful lesson in balance, proving that they are equally skilled at restraint and intensity.
