Jazz trio Misc shares Misctape Vol.1

This year, Misc steps out of the usual 2-year album cycle and takes on the challenge of sharing new music more regularly. The jazz trio released a self-titled album less than a year ago, making a clear and creative case for exploring the intersection of indie rock and jazz (Peter Hum, Ottawa Citizen). Pianist Jérôme Beaulieu, drummer William Côté and double bassist Cédric Dind-Lavoie now unveil a mixtape, appropriately titled Misctape Vol.1, made up of improvised and reworked ambient variations.

Formerly known as Trio Jérôme Beaulieu (and named Radio-Canada’s Breakthrough Jazz artist for 2013-2014), Misc occupies a unique place in the Jazz scene due to the vital role that improvisation plays in their music. They also often draw on many influences from pop and rock genres.

The trio continues to work on music as a group while evolving in other environments, namely the monthly slam nights at Ô Patro Vys. We end up playing a whole bunch of music that does not necessarily make it into our repertoire later on, but that we have just as much fun creating, playing and listening to from time to time, explains Jérôme Beaulieu when describing from where their idea to create mixtape came.
