Formed by Jérôme Beaulieu, William Côté and Simon Pagé, the band unveils an animated teaser for the song Mad, off their upcoming LP Partager l’ambulance, due out February 3rd via Bonsound. The album will be available for pre-order as of January 27th.
The album’s title, Partager l’ambulance (which translates to Sharing the ambulance), is a reference to the global crisis shaking humanity right now. It explores the choices we have to either address the crisis to minimize the multiple impacts that are already occurring or ignore it and risk severe consequences in the future. Either way, we share this space together and it’s hard not to feel like we’re headed towards a wall right now, explains Jérôme. This thought process, which the band started long before the COVID-19 pandemic, is brilliantly illustrated on the album’s colorful cover, designed by Christophe B. De Muri. The artwork represents a hybrid form of transportation between a raft and an ambulance, and will be gradually unveiled over the next couple of weeks with the help of animated teasers. The first teaser is available here.
With this new offering, the band (formerly known as Trio Jérôme Beaulieu) continues the exploration they started with their eponymous 2016 album by blurring the boundaries between jazz and other genres like pop, rock and electronic music. These influences translate into strong, catchy grooves and melodies, an unusually wide range of percussion, and a skillful implementation of a variety of effects.
Since their beginnings, the three musicians have been keen to reinvent themselves and get out of the traditional jazz trio format. They want to bring their music to where it can be heard, regardless of the musical preferences of the listener. With the eagerly anticipated Partager l’ambulance, Misc offers a strong album that is both timeless and innovative.
