LUMIÈRE unveils the fiery anthem À quoi tu penses two days before the release of GLAM

Prior to unveiling GLAM, his second album, LUMIÈRE (aka Étienne Côté) reveals the fiery rock anthem À quoi tu penses and its accompanying music video. Inspired by a real life experience, the song stands out with its relentless energy and catchy chorus. Available for pre-order now (vinyl, CD and digital), GLAM will be released this Friday, April 28th via Bonsound.

À quoi tu penses' lyrics refer to an experience Étienne had in the winter of 2022 while working on a rock opera with a visual artist friend in Paris. Comfortably installed at a foreign house for Canadian students, the two artists casually explored different ideas, taking the time to live, laugh, exchange and create in total freedom. This very relaxed way of working and creating challenged the more conservative ways of a lady with whom the two friends shared the space. À quoi tu penses is LUMIÈRE's response to this woman and, above all, to the rigidity of the conventional classical environment she embodies. Through this song, the singer-songwriter playfully invites his detractor to take a deep breath, relax and allow herself to open up to other people.

Inspired by the music video for Material Girl (Madonna), which in turn is inspired by the movie Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, the music video for À quoi tu penses depicts a dialogue between LUMIÈRE and the Lover, embodied by a chorus of dancers. With its Bob Fosse-like accents, Mathieu Hérard's choreography translates into movement the discomfort and awkwardness of this exchange in which no one is listening to each other. I was lucky enough to work with an incredible creative team on this project, explains Alexander Pelletier, the director of the music video. From Natan B. Foisy's cinematography, to Ariane St-Pierre Cyr's sets, Marianne Dubreuil's costumes and Carole Méthot's make-up, all the elements were there to make a music video with a bold visual identity. As always, LUMIÈRE delivered an emotionally authentic performance with a contagious energy.

LUMIÈRE will open for Daniel Bélanger's sold-out shows at the MTELUS on May 16th and 17th. On July 10th, he will perform the songs from his new album on the Plains of Abraham during the Festival d'été de Québec. Afterwards, he will be hitting the road for a series of concerts in Quebec during the fall. More shows will be announced soon. See the list below for all the tour dates.
